The worst part about self hosting tools for collaboration and communication is identity management.
I don’t want to maintain your account. I just want to validate that you have an account.
But there is not an account provider I trust.
So I guess I’m back to email addresses and maintaining a password database.
@ajroach42 that's one reason I like OpenID so much. Sadly it got abandoned because it didn't keep silos. However there are still providers if that is an option.
@ajroach42 I miss OpenID
@ajroach42So you don't trust account providers but you implicitly trust email providers?
And you trust SMTP over HTTPS.
I would strongly disagree if you asked me.
@x_cli no I don’t trust email providers! That’s part of the problem.
I don’t want accounts tied to email addresses. I don’t want identities tied to email addresses.
I just haven’t decided what to do about it.
