Scale is weird.

I can get a 6000 GB external HDD for $110. That means I can get 12000 GB of storage across two USB drives for $220.

Or I can get 100 2GB flash drives, for roughly the same price. 200GB of storage, spread across 100 drives for $220.

So here we can get 100 drives at $1.10/GB or 2 drives at $0.18/GB

It is 6 times more expensive to get individual drives versus mass storage (of course, this is not in any way apples to apples, it's flash media vs spinning disks, and the thing I'm paying for with the flash drives, more than anything, is the metal and plastic. )

but it's still fascinating to think about, you know?
