Hello, all! My name is Web. I'm a #CSI, a #film geek, #gamer, #jazz enthusiast, and a pop culture junkie. I record a monthly #podcast about Indian cinema/culture called Darn That Dream. I studied #biology and #forensics in school and am very passionate about #science and #education. I want to one day be a #teacher at the high school or college level.
@webistrying Where can I find your podcast. I don't know Jack about Indian cinema, and I'd like to.
@ajroach42 You can stream it via browser here: https://webistrying.wordpress.com or find me on iTunes at Darn That Dream. I'm only a few episode in and am trying to incorporate Indian culture as well. So the most recent episode is a few Indian folktales I found. For classic Indian cinema, I say check out Satyajit Ray's films in the Criterion Collection. I can also recommend some mainstream Bollywood films if you ever wanted to give them a go!
@webistrying I own the Pather Panchali trilogy, although I admit I have not watched them yet.
I discussed them in passing in a podcast episode (yet to be released) about DIY and amatuer film makers.
The story of how he funded the film partially out of his own pocket was pretty inspiring.
But, as I said, I haven't seen the movie yet. It's on my list of films to watch, but I'm a little intimidated by it.
@ajroach42 The reputation of that trilogy is intimidating indeed! I avoided Citizen Kane for the longest time because of the same reason. Now I can't remember a time before Orson Welles was in my life. If you have a FilmStruck account, check out The Big City. It's actually my favorite Ray film. Films on Netflix that may be a good intro to modern Indian cinema: Queen, Dangal, and Lagaan.
@webistrying I appreciate the suggestions. I’ll get them added to the list.
