@omanreagan I wish there were better tools to do these things off of Facebook.
@mikedd @ajroach42 @omanreagan CiviCRM comes to mind, though I’ve not used it personally - https://civicrm.org/
@Brennan @ajroach42 @omanreagan I've heard of this before. My university just used moodle and office365 accounts..aka email and calendars for events and such. Never had any issues tbh 🤷
@Brennan @mikedd @omanreagan That's neat. Almost what I want.
@mikedd How exactly other cebttalised, proprietary, for-profit platforms like eventbrite or meetup are better than facebook?
As far as I can rembember, eventbrite's terms of use are shitty…
@devnull @ajroach42 @omanreagan well..I guess, yeah, that makes sense. So what then?
@mikedd What about using/recommending better tools (decentralised libre software), or of it doesn't exist yet, build/fund it?
@devnull @ajroach42 @omanreagan yeah that's what I meant. What would you recommend? I can't really think of any since I don't use anything for those kind of tasks..
@mikedd Well, that's a good question. My needs are quite simple (knowning who'll be there and/or deciding which moment suits most people) so I use Framadate
@devnull @ajroach42 @omanreagan oh sweet never heard of this! Will have a look :)
Also, if you didn't already know about this, there's a huge collection of stuff here https://prism-break.org/
@mikedd Thanks for the link. But do you know who's behind this behind prism-break? Some data is out of date
@devnull @ajroach42 @omanreagan no idea but yeah, some of it is out of sync. Also if you want the same thing but for android..again, dunno who maintains it but here we go https://droid-break.info/
@mikedd And LineageOS without gapps
@devnull @omanreagan @ajroach42 yeah, the good old days 😍
The EFF is behind it, aren't they?
But it was launched around the time of the Prism disclosure. That was a long time ago.
@ajroach42 @devnull @omanreagan june 2014 afaik
@mikedd @omanreagan Sure. But also, these are mostly more silos with the same problem as facebook on a smaller scale.
We need a federated open-source and reasonably secure event management option.
@ajroach42 @mikedd @omanreagan or you could subscribe to a mailing list and send each other calendar invites.
It's old school, but surely a better option? (Need encryption? No problem! That's what Keybase & PGP is for)
@ajroach42 @omanreagan meetup, eventrbite and moodle for universities? Off the top of my head..
