I've heard other shows of his from this era, and earlier, that are Better in terms of performance, but this set list (and the inclusion of Brendan Benson in the band) is hard to beat.

Alright:

The audio quality of the show is pretty solid. It's a live concert from 1999, at a small bar in Detroit. It's not Studio Quality (whatever that even means) but it's a soundboard recording, I think it's a multitrack, even and it has been professionally mastered.

It's good.

The band is Sloppy. The drums especially. The vocals are all over the place in terms of quality.

Jack is playing some songs that would go on to be hits for The White Stripes, and two songs that I've never heard.

What's the scoop here, and what should I do to troublehsoot

I just found a live, soundboard recording of
JACK WHITE (JACK AND THE BRICKS) - The Gold Dollar Detroit, MI - SEP 16, 1999

I think this may have gotten a vault release at some point, but I found it through a service called Nugs.

It opens with Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground, which opens with Brendan Benson on vocals. Jack takes over pretty quickly, but it's still a really neat moment.

I really need to get a digital in on my home stereo.

Alright.

The motion tracking algorithm is Good but not Perfect.

It also runs like ass on the machine I'm running it on, so it's taking me forever to generate something I can show.

I'll keep fiddling with it, but I should probably move to a stronger computer, and also explore other software that does the same thing in other ways.

@ajroach42 Harcourt Fenton Mudd + Cyrano Jones and cast me as both in different makeup

Consider this my official petition to Star Trek discovery, bring back Cyrano Jones you cowards

Show thread

We watched the tribbles episode of Star Trek the animated series last night, and I really found myself wanting for a short or a series that explores what would happen if Cyrano Jones and Harry Mudd ever teamed up.

When this one is done, I'm going to try again with the same video but with the significantly more heavily stylized illustration. Specifically I'm going to try really hard to shoot for a kind of Filmation, star trek TOS thing.

If I can pull that off, I might also try a Blue beetle comic book thing.

Show thread

I am personally considering how this could be used for something akin to space angel or clutch cargo, that is to say a very limited animation/motion comic, where EBSynth or a similar piece of software fills in for the actual moving human lips.

So far, the results are better than I expected.

I'm not a very good illustrator, so the cartoon itself is not any good. But the automatic rotoscoping is working really well.

Show thread

Going to play with automatic rotoscoping and animation filtering software tomorrow and see what kind of results I can scrounge together.

If I get anything usable, I'll post it here.

elevator pitch: it's like the fake-cassette-tape-with-aux-cable for adapting old car stereos for use with headphone-jack-bearing audio devices, but it's the size of a miniDV cassette and captures the digital output of a miniDV cam (via its record head) to a file on a microSD card (h/t @ajroach42 whomst will want and will likely be involved with prototyping in a few months hopefully)

I think it's important to remember the power of a good set of instructions.
