Gemini and discoverability

I'm seeing more hits to my gemini capsule than I would have thought before starting one. I think it is getting more hits than the same content would have if I had started a traditional blog on the web. The relative size of gemini being so small compared to the web means all the eyes are condensed on the smaller number of sites.

re: Gemini and discoverability

@kelbot Easy to be ignored on the web. The relative difference in content means more Gemini users are likely to see what you put online than web users. Also I think web users are now very used to staying in walled platforms and not venturing outside of them.

@kelbot How do you check the hits? I am very curious about these numbers for my capsule once, for me, it appears no one goes there. :)

Gemini and discoverability

@brunofontes I have a simple little bash script that extracts out all the unique ip addresses from journalctl that hit gmnisrv and counts them.

Gemini and discoverability

@kelbot Great! Thanks!! I will give it a try!! :)

@kelbot I really need to get a capsule set up.

I have an hour and change today, and again tomorrow.

Do you have a quickstart guide?

Gemini and discoverability

@ajroach42 I saw a couple. Let me find them again. I didn't use a guide. Just installed gmnisrv from source, generated certs, forwarded port 1965 and wrote my pages by hand after reading over the gemtext markup which is extremely simple.

@kelbot how do you like your server?

Gemini and discoverability

@ajroach42 Seems great so far. Very few dependencies, install and config was simple and has been stable.

Gemini and discoverability

@kelbot What browser(s) are you using?

Gemini and discoverability

@ajroach42 Amfora in the terminal, kristall on my pinephone, ariane on android.

I have tried bollux and bombadillo and they were ok too. I've heard la grange and castor are good too.

Gemini and discoverability

@kelbot If kristall supported keyboard shortcuts, (just like, ctrl-click and ctrl-t and ctrl-w) I'd e down.

Gemini and discoverability

@ajroach42 I have only used kristall on my pinephone where i don't have a keyboard so far :-)
