"I've been trying to find a space to keep track of my thoughts on various things for a few years but I always seem to spend time fiddling with tech and not actually posting or writing."
I was saying I'd start a blog for YEARS. I never actually tried that hard. I didn't want to fiddle with a web server, site generator etc. I did want a selfhosted site to write about things I enjoy but not badly enough to do all that. Gemini is so simple that I don't mind the little bit of fiddling.
It seems to be working pretty well for me. I've been writing a lot and enjoying myself. It's been working so well that it has helped me resist the urge to tinker. There are things I *could* do but the simplicity allows me to do a lot of it by hand so easily that complicating it just does not seem like it would pay off.
@kelbot Regular HTML isn't *that* much harder to write manually than Gemini. I maintain my website with manual writing on both Gemini and HTTP, and while HTML is definitely more verbose, it's still pretty easy to write IMO.
@zce Basic HTML is not that hard but it IS definitely more annoying to write by hand. Also, the whole stack of software and configurations of a webserver are more complicated and annoying than configuring a gemini server. None of the individual parts are massively different but they all add up and gemini as a whole is just much less mental and time burden. That's how I feel about it anyway.
