Today the OSI @osi has released it's 1.0 specification for Open Source AI
While the definition isn't perfect, we think some kind of base line is much needed and we thank everybody who contributed to the effort. See our blog for more thoughts!
@nextcloud @osi that is not how it works https://tante.cc/2024/10/16/does-open-source-ai-really-exist/

Who asked for "AI" [aka LLMs and image mashup machines] ?
Certainly no one using Nextcloud.
There's potential for so much better cloud (for example a functionnal Gantt app, a proper sync solution for map favorites or a tag-oriented file manager) and you really wanna spend it all on "AI" ?
@Teratogenese @nextcloud @osi I would have settled for allowing users to specify the format in which to display dates and times, but that's just me.
AI is the new "relative timestamp" (i.e., "4 hours ago"). Something that somebody thought was a good idea, nobody actually wants, and is not actually that useful, but somehow got implemented everywhere in all kinds of products nonetheless.
@nextcloud @osi Whatever AI "features" you end up wasting your time with, please, PLEASE, make them optional, and not things that leave gaping holes when they are inevitably disabled.

If you condone or advocate or advance #AI and #LLM, you are actively contributing to global #ClimateChange.

@nextcloud @osi techbros invent a new sort of computer that's wrong
Come check out our new software, you can ask it a question and it'll confidently give you a wrong answer, it uses hundreds of times more energy than your old software
and y'all think the problem with this is that it isn't open source

....or maybe use the development capacities for a built in backup/restore solution? I just set up my whole nc because of "internal server error" after update from v. 29 to 30.
@Layer8 @osi Thanks for the feedback, and sorry to hear you had issues with your upgrade. For built-in backups, you might consider the official All-In-One container, which offers out-of-the-box Borg backups, among many other features: https://github.com/nextcloud/all-in-one
@nextcloud @osi
Thanks for the hint. I guess this wont work for shared hoster setup.
I would prefer an app with occ support to backup e.g. the calendar data.
