In other news, we're going to make TVs, all in one computers, Video phones, and various other bits and baubles.

I'm starting with a design for a Philco Predicta style 10" diagonal 4:3 LCD that will house an optional computer, with a matching stand mechanical keyboard.

The housing will be vacuum formed, the bezel we'll run off on the laser. The gnobs and switches we'll mold and cast.

I should be able to finish one by the second week of Jan.

And, of course, Sundog has me chasing dick tracy watches and space-a-phones and other high and low tech projects as things we could prototype out, refine, then hand off to one of the other locals to produce at scale in a way that enables them to, you know, make some money.

I ordered the first 4:3 display board for us to do some testing with. It's actually 8" diagonal, which is too small for what I want to do in production, but will be fine for prototyping.

I'll have to see what the surplus folks and resellers have in 4:3 at larger sizes.

I think I'd want a 13" for the full prod run.

Regardless, I gotta figure out how we're going to do little chrome name badges.

Alright, I have three potential techniques for little chrome name badges, and I'm going to try one of them first thing tomorrow.

I have several fallback names in mind if we're unable to use the one I want.

I did some digging for suppliers for panels, but I think I'm gonna leave that to the expert.

Worked on some design stuff for the displays and the spaceaphones.

Attached is a TV I saw in the wild today.

Now it's time to sleep.

@ajroach42 Casting in metal can get expensive (both ordering, as getting a DIY setup going), but you can get decent effect with 3d printed badge that is lightly sanded and polished with rub'n'buff (a metallic wax).

@FredBednarski we'll mold and cast for speed over 3d printing. Never heard of rubnbuff but that sounds like what I need.

@ajroach42 Casting would be even better for larger operation for sure!

Chrome paint would work, but is not as permanent IMHO. I had metalic paint chip pretty easily, while rub and buff scuffs instead of chipping and that can be polished up again.

@ajroach42 Also, if those would not be crazy expensive - I would so get one! Even an 8inch one. Just leave me some space in the base to put something like raspberry pi inside and I am there!

@FredBednarski they shouldn't be too bad. I'll keep you posted when they start rolling off the lines.

@Sandra here. The makerspace website. Eventually peertube and my blog.
