So, how is everyone?
I feel like I've been especially scattered these last few weeks.
Then again, I feel like I always feel that way.
Let me throw some updates out in to the aether and see what sticks.
#MountainTownToys progress has slowed but not stopped as I teach myself how to use my new drag knife cutter and sewing machine.
#OfManyTrades should be back online tomorrow or Friday.
#BiteSizedBits boxes should be done for everyone I'm making them for by the second week of December. I'm cutting it close on time, but the hard work is already finished.
#ExpeditionSasquatch should have a new episode up before next Monday, and another shortly behind it.
I've also started writing an episode in which Jack fails to kill bigfoot because Climate Change, which I think will be fun.
Uhhh... #JupitersGhost has seen some progress recently too, and it should be ready for contributions eventually.
And I've decided to buy a telecine rig for what I'll call #ModernVintageFilm but which is really just me archiving film reels to digital files that I can share on Archive.org and peertube.
Speaking of which: https://peertube.mastodon.host/accounts/ajroach42/video-channels
I have movies and TV shows on peertube. I'll be adding more in the coming weeks/months.
There are 36 TV episodes, 13 film serial episodes, and 37 movies currently available. Mostly scifi and horror, with some adventure and some other garbage.
This wasn't rhetorical.
How are you? What's bringing you joy? What would make things better?
@ajroach42 Was wondering about JG, now the domain seems to be gone.
@danhunsaker Yeah, the finished project might get called something different, and there's another domain that I'm using and ...
I haven't done a good job of managing this project, but I do work on it often. I'll be sure to loop you in when I start letting people get onboard.
@ajroach42 All I can ask!
@ajroach42 I feel really out of sorts and disoriented. I started a new job the day before going on PTO for the holiday, and because it's a new job I don't know how all of my holiday plans are going to shake out.
I want to sit down and do stuff, but every time I do I get scatterbrained.
It's stressing me the fuck out because I don't know what the lynchpin is, so I can't do anything about it.
@drwho I hate to hear that. I imagine I would be equally stressed in a similar situation.
I hope you can find the center.
@ajroach42 I'm hanging in there. Going home for the holidays is bringing me joy-
a more stable income would make everything better.
The political situation has been effecting my household on a financial and personal level in a pretty serious way.
@Miredly Yeah... it has been a rough year. I'm not going to get to see most of my family this time, but it's still good to have time to reflect.
@ajroach42 I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm glad you feel the time off will still be good.
It's been such a hard year for everyone, and it doesn't look like things will be easier anytime soon.
@Miredly It has been a hard year, both generally and personally.
Next year will, in all likelihood, be harder.
But I also think that things are looking up. Slowly, but I'm optimistic
@ajroach42 I’m bloody tired.
@ajroach42 Going to see a friend over the weekend is bringing me tentative hypothetical joy. What would make things better in the moment is if I had both fewer things falling apart that can only be reached on weird delays, and more will and courage to push for things faster and earlier. Or, if it has to be more concrete, a solid and relatively painless way of handling my creditors while minimizing long-term damage after the recent $cascade_disaster.
@ajroach42 I've been feeling scattered, too. Hanging in at work, getting things done only somewhat more slowly than I should, not having much to spare beyond that.
@bstacey I feel this.
My team just hired two new people, so every free moment is training them.
Our busy season is basically any time kids aren't in school, so the last two weeks have been a mad dash to get everything ready for what will likely be a new peak in users. Did more over Each of the last three weeks than we did the months of February, March, April, and May collectively.
@ajroach42 being in Chile, with everything going on in the streets, even though it doesn't impact me directly, it's hard to focus on my work. Like there's important questions to ponder, in an society in flux then those related to work.
@chotee Stay safe, fren.
@ajroach42 I woke up tired which was a bummer, but also did first aid teaching and my best mate turned up afterward so overall a good one!
@verity Right now I'm trying to decide which telecine rig to buy, and looking for other films to transfer and preserve.
I had a long conversation with a coworker about the possibility of setting up a patreon for my archival and preservation efforts, and spoke with another coworker about getting our public domain media podcast started back up. ...
I guess media is brewing.
@ajroach42 I might have missed this- but where do you find the films to archive?
@verity lots of places! I got a couple on eBay, several have come from antique stores, three from private collectors excited by the idea of having pieces of their collection preserved.
